TechNative/ Codecademy Projects

Have a look at a selection of the learning projects from my Full Stack Bootcamp. These range from absolute beginner projects in week one, through more complicated projects with a few group projects thrown in for good measure.

I hope they give you an idea of how far I've come during the bootcamp. Remember, I had very little experience before this! You can read about my experiences throughout the project on my blog From Stage to Screen. It's linked in the nav bar.

If you'd like to take a look at some of my course peers and coding collaborators, I've linked to their GitHub profiles at the bottom of the page.

Week 1

Dasmoto's Arts and Crafts

Project description

One of the first basic sites I made on the Codecademy course focusing on basic CSS elements. Click the name to view the project.

CSS Selectors Crib Sheet

Project description

Practising using HTML tables and basic CSS elements. Click the name to view the project.

Week 2

Cozy Tea

Project description

Working from a Codecademy brief mock up to implement flexbox for the first time. Click the name to view the project.

Website Stylesheet

Project description

I went a little more indepth for this than strictly necessary, but its served me well as the basis for this site. Click the name to view the project.

Fotomatic Debug

Project description

Rather than generating the code myself, this has been an interestign exercise in debugging someone else's work. I've managed to get the desktop site looking decent, but mobile has much to be desired. In hindsight, I wish I'd done mobile first! Click the name to view the project.

Nerdland Farm Homepage

Project description

A free practice project, built mobile first and in homage to my Stardew Valley farm for a bit of fun! Click the name to view the project.

Week 3

The start of JavaScript!

Project description

I'd never seen JavaScript before this week and this was a couple of the bigger end of module projects on Codecademy. Its not the best code, but I think its useful to demostrate my progress over the weeks. Click the name to view the project.

Week 4

Data, search and Filter

Project description

This was a project set by TechNative that was part follow the instructions and part freer practice. I really enjoyed setting to see JS in practice on the web and it helped inspire some features on this site. Click the name to view the project.

Git/GitHub Workflow

Project description

This was a very quick additional project with Chloe, Elyas and Helder to practice using Git and GitHub. It's based on the Codecademy 'Mixed Messages' project. It was the first time we'd made branches, pull requests and merged work! Click the name to view the project.

Week 5

API's

Project description

I'd have loved a bit more time to play with this, but I was so proud to have gotten this much working after a few blocks with the original learning content. Click the name to view the project.

Week 6

Milliways (Group Project)

Project description

This was our first group project, set by TechNative and the attached employers. We had a design brief to work from but were free to create a site on whatever we wanted. It was a tough 4 days, but I'm really proud of what we've put together. Created with Helder and Nico. Click the name to view the project.

Week 7

React Playground

Project description

A walkthrough project I did to start getting to grips with React. I went on holiday for a couple of weeks, so I've not yet had a chance to edit it as much as I'd like! Click the name to view the project.

Week 8

On holiday! No coding time for me...

Week 9

On holiday! No coding time for me...

Week 10

Ask Dargon (Group Project)

Project description

This was our second TechNative group project, this time based around React and Redux. As with the previous project, we were given a design brief for an AI company but were encouraged to put our own spin on it. It's safe to say we really had fun with it! Created with Elyas and Seb. Click the name to see the project.

Week 12

OAuth Project with GitHub

Project description

A chance to put some of the learning from the OAuth module into practice. We were given some boilerplate from Codecademy and fill in the blanks to get the code to login via GitHub.

Boss Machine

Project description

A Codecademy project helping solidfy Express routing and Middleware. I really enjoyed running the tests for this and using them to debug - it helped solidfy the use of params middleware.

Week 13

My first backend API!

Project description

It's not pretty, but I'm really proud of myself for getting everything working on this API. I struggled a bit getting the middleware functions working properly, but it's a great example for me moving forwards!

Best of Baseball Awards

Project description

A Codecademy project to practise SQL queries on a multi-table database. The database contains lots of baseball stats from 1800's onwards and I was querying to find winners of various awards!
